September Newsletter

Welcome to the twenty-first aosp-devs newsletter, keeping you up to date with things happening in the AOSP developer community.

Oh already October. Where did September go?!?

AOSP and AAOS Meetup in September

In September we had The September 2026 Meetup. It was a discussion round about LLMs and agentic tools to develop the AOSP. Quite a lot of good points were raised and ideas shared. E.g. how to sync between locally attached devices via adb and the agent and an AOSP build running on a build server.

If you are interested, the recording is available on the page The September 2026 Meetup.

AOSP devroom @ IndiaFOSS

And there was, as last year, a very successful AOSP devroom at IndiaFOSS in Bengaluru, India.

The recordings are already on the page AOSP devroom. It’s one long video with chapter markers to jump between the talks easily. And you can find all slides as pdfs in this Google Drive folder.

Here are some photos from the devroom and it’s volunteers:

New LLMs channel on Discord

In the AOSP and AAOS meetup we also agreed on sharing more knowledge about agentic tool usage in AOPS development. So now we have a llms channels on Discord to share ideas.

For now, we are just counting from 1st up to 42, but I hope we will see some interesting content soon.

New blog posts

Two posts by Daniel Georg:

And one in-depth analysis by Daniel Fages:

Two things from the fediverse

The C-based Linux kernel binder driver is dropped from the kernel (Source). It’s fully replaced by the rust-based binder driver:

~17 years after landing in staging, it looks like its time to say goodbye to the binder.c driver: https://lore.kernel.org/lkml/rm-c-binder@google.com/

Kudos to to both Alice Ryhl for her huge efforts on the Rust Binder, and Carlos Llamas for his maintaiance of the C driver and his eager help with the transition!

GrapheneOS on non-public APIs (Source):

Android 17 QPR1 is the first release since Android Honeycomb (3.x) adding new APIs for app developers without a release to the Android Open Source Project. The new APIs are currently exclusive to the Pixel OS and aren’t available to other Android OEMs.
