aosp-devs.org January newsletter
Welcome to the thirteenth aosp-devs newsletter, keeping you up to date with things happening in the AOSP developer community.
It’s not too late. Actually, it’s quite timely, since on the weekend there was FOSDEM fulltime.
FOSDEM’26 - FOSS on Mobile devroom
We joined the FOSS on Mobile devroom and it was amazing. A full day of talks and the room was full nearly all the time. The recordings are already on air on the schedule and talk pages.
AOSP and AAOS Meetup
And three days before FOSDEM there was also the AOSP and AAOS January Meetup with two talks:
- Keeping Android up to date when the OEM fails to - Michael Zimmermann, 7/LAB
- Debugging Android OS at Scale: AI-Powered Log Analysis - Varun Chitre, logcat.ai
You can find recordings on this page.
No Q1 and Q3 Android release
On January 6 the following note has appeared on the source.android.com.
Effective in 2026, to align with our trunk stable development model and ensure platform stability for the ecosystem, we will publish source code to AOSP in Q2 and Q4.
Again covered by Mishaal Rahman on Android Authority: Breaking: Google will now only release Android source code twice a year
Mishaal Rahman
But sadly, this will be the last blogpost by Mishaal on Android Authority
Some personal news:
This is my last day at Android Authority, and it also marks the end of my time posting Android news!
I’ve spent the past 10 years writing about Android, and I’ve enjoyed every moment of it. What began as a hobby in college — tinkering with custom ROMs and modding my phone — turned into a long career, one totally disconnected from my degree in Biomedical Engineering.
Thanks for all the news coverage about Android in the last years!
